Dr. Robert Maciver

Dr. Robert Maciver is a Medical Practitioner specialising in Relationship & Marriage Counselling, and sex therapy.

Dr. Robert worked as a family doctor in general practice for many years before embarking on his journey to learn about and teach loving relationships. For over 25 years he has worked almost exclusively with individuals and couples exploring what gets in the way of love and finding ways to help people re-establish the love that they once experienced, or with others helping them learn what love is and how to love better.

“A build-up of resentment based on the accumulation of lots of little hurts—or big ones—is very common.”

Most people in relationship do not feel that their partner really understands their perspective or concerns.  He works to help couples learn to listen to their partners well and to be able to express their own concerns.

He knows a lot about the mistakes of relationship—about what not to do—and willingly shares this knowledge to help others avoid making these mistakes.

The most common questions

1. What is a therapy session like?

In the first session of 2½ hours Dr. Robert will speak with you to understand the dynamics of your relationship or situation. During the session he will start to help you gain further insight and actions you can take to resolve the issues.

You can expect Dr. Robert to give you many insights to think about, discuss, and do at home.

In the following 1 1/4 hour session, you will discuss with Dr. Robert the outcome of the last session and any progress. If further sessions are required, you will know at this stage. Many people do not further sessions.

Dr. Robert climbs right into your emotional entanglements to understand them and show you the way through. He brings to each session his cutting edge training on top of his 25 years’ practice. He will take care of you.

2. How long will therapy take?

Most couples get a lot from the first few sessions, and some need more. It depends on your situation and the amount of progress you can make between sessions.

You can call or email Dr. Robert to discuss your situation and understand more about the process beforehand.

4. Do I need to attend with my partner?

Much of Dr. Robert’s work is with couples, and when couples attend together they can progress faster.

However Dr. Robert does also work with individuals alone on their relationship, on how to develop and maintain a relationship in the future, and also on any psychological concern they have.

Therapy is effective whether or not you attend with your partner.
